Leonard Nimoy at the Hollywood Bowl, 9-2-07

T'Marii and I went to Movie Night at the Hollywood Bowl last night. This year's Movie Night featured films from Paramount Studios.

Leonard Nimoy was the host. It was great seeing Leonard again - twice in less than a month's time! (I saw him at the Las Vegas Creation convention earlier this month, as well.) He looked great, and he was energetic and engaged with the material.

The musicians performed the themes to several famous Paramount movies ("Wings", "Sunset Boulevard", "The Godfather", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Titanic", "Dreamgirls", and several others.) Movie clips and montages were shown on big screens, accompanying the music.

Among the movie themes they performed was the theme to "Mission: Impossible". Leonard commented on the fact that he'd had "some involvement" with that series, and then added, he'd also been involved with another TV series, which debuted in 1966. He repeated those words, "1966..." with a very bemused tone in his voice. Then he introduced the theme to "Star Trek". The musicians performed the theme while clips from various Trek movies, both TOS and TNG, were displayed on the big screen.

Wonderful evening! And because the temperature that day had topped 105 degrees, and because the Hollywood Bowl is an outdoor venue, they had an encore at the end... Music and images from "White Christmas".

And, since this is LA, and since I do love to segue, here are the lyrics to the seldom-heard first verse of "White Christmas".

The sun is shining
The grass is green
The orange and palm trees sway.
There’s never been such a day
In Beverly Hills, LA,
But it’s December the 24th
And I am longing to be up north.

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know...
