Health Care in America

Yay! I got my new health care card today. I haven’t had employer-provided health care insurance for nearly two years now, and the cost of my private policy was draining me dry. (I’ve been working since I was 16; I’ve never been unemployed before; I’ve never been in danger of being without health insurance before, so these past two years were quite a shock to my system. See “long story”.)

I sure hope we have real health care reform in this country soon. I’ve been feeling like I’ve been walking on quicksand, quicksand that has sucked under some of my friends, and I’m only too aware how treacherous life’s pathway has become for so many.

Waves to the Canadian friend on my flist who, when I told her and one of her friends a year and a half ago what was going on with my health insurance, spontaneously began singing “O Canada!”

46 states down, 4 to go...!

Here's all the states I've ever visited. (OK, so I'm counting Georgia and Florida on a technicality; I was in the Atlanta and Miami airports catching continuing flights to other destinations. But still, I was "on the ground" - er, airport floor, as it were - for an hour or two.)

I'm not sure why I've never been in Oregon - I was 12 miles from the border once; I don't recall why we didn't just continue and at least set foot in the state. Ditto Vermont.

K/S Christmas Calendar

I'm posting this on behalf of Dale, who is running the K/S Christmas Calendar this year.

To see last year's calendar, go here:

From Dale: K/S Christmas Calendar Reminder

Please consider contributing to the K/S Christmas Calendar. This is a tradition I'd hate to see dwindle away. We need stories, art, poems, screensavers, music vids -- all treats will be welcome. It doesn't have to be a holiday story, just as long as it is about Kirk and Spock. Any rating, and no restrictions as long as warnings are used, and the story doesn't demean our guys.

The work has to be new to the internet. Zine stories are welcome if
they haven't appeared on the net before.

All stories posted on the calendar will be posted at Kirk-and Spock
yahoogroup for feedback. If you want your story posted elsewhere we ask that you wait until after the 25th.

Please send your work to me at valioffire at yahoo dot com

Thank you,
